Day 6

"Excuses!"

Exodus 4:1-17


Among my “Favorites Devotions” was
one on what I call the “Why Chapter.”
2 Corinthians 5 gives us several
reasons for serving the Lord.
What are our “reasons” for not serving?
Did I say reasons? I meant excuses.

“I wasn't at church because I didn't have a ride.”
So, you called several people and
they all turned you down?
"I don't know enough about
the Bible to teach a class.”
So, you've studied and read the
lesson book and still don't know?
“I don't know how to share my faith.”
So, you attended the witnessing seminar,
read through the gospel tracts, and
practiced writing out your own personal testimony,
and still don't have anything to say?

Seriously? It's usually just plain old fear
- or worse than that, we simply don't
want to do the task God has laid out
before us! Well, Moses had excuses, too!
God answered every one of them,
just as He will do for you.
We just need to obey anyway!
Let God take care of those “concerns.”
He will provide what you need to follow His call.


Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to examine
my so-called reasons for not doing
the things You've called me to do.
Help me to discover which ones are excuses
and trust You to take care of those things.


P.S. Several years ago there was a gospel song
that sang through all kinds of excuses
people give for NOT attending church.
Here is the chorus:

Excuses, excuses, you'll hear them every day.
And the Devil he'll supply them,
if from church you stay away.
When people come to know the Lord,
the Devil always loses
So to keep them folks away from church,
he offers them excuses.
